The Daracha Tree
is a podcast dedicated to Greek music.
It is hosted by me, Olga Hadjilambri, a London-based PR
and former music journalist.
The idea for this podcast came during the pandemic. I recalled all the brilliant independent artists that I had met and interviewed during my brief spell as a Greek music journalist. I wanted to reconnect with the musicians, managers, journalists, record shop owners and record company personnel that I had met to find out about their personal journey into music.
Why The Daracha Tree? Well, daracha is the Cypriot word for carob. The land around my late Cypriot grandmother’s house
was filled with daracha trees which she harvested every autumn. They provided much needed respite from the blistering
summer sun and formed the backdrop to almost every family portrait.
Today, I have a daracha tree growing outside my bedroom at my parents’ house. Not only does it provide shade from the sun,
but also acts as a shield from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
Each episode is an hour long and is a step into the world of the interviewee, most of whom I have know since my foray into journalism many, many moons ago.
